Who Are These People!

Saturday, December 03, 2005

Here's a couple of exerpts from today's Yahoo! News articles that caught my eye:

1.
Greenspan bows out of G7 with a flourish

Brown revealed something new about the honor that Greenspan received a day earlier when he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London with its ancient and arcane right to herd sheep across London bridge.

"As you know, yesterday he also became a freeman of the City of London and he has signed an oath of allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen to do so -- something as you know Americans have been reluctant to do for the last 250 years," Brown told a closing news conference.

Brown said he convinced Greenspan to do so by telling him that former U.S. Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Theodore Roosevelt also had taken similar oaths.

2.
Civil rights watchdog to sue CIA over detainee

At a news conference in Washington that day, the man represented by the ACLU will appear and state that CIA-authorized agents abducted, beat and drugged him before sending him to the secret Afghanistan facility, the group said.

The man is innocent, the ACLU said, and was held without notice for an undisclosed time before being released without ever being charged of a crime. An ACLU spokesman declined to give additional details about the case or the plaintiff.

The ACLU said the lawsuit will also involve unidentified companies that owned and operated airplanes used to transport the plaintiff.
