First Shot of the US-Iran War?
Saturday, June 04, 2005
Why is it that major news is reported on the weekend when no one is really paying any attention? Just this morning, Yahoo News carried an AP piece titled, "AP: Intelligence Shows Terrorists in Iran" This story confirms suspicions I had that this administration has been trying to "fix the evidence" around going to war with Iran.
For the last year, news being spewed forth from the White House has been about Nukes and Civil Rights abuses, but the public wasn't buying it. Now, the Administration has decided to play their trump card: They said right from the vary beginning (from Bush's 2002 State of the Union address):
Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction....Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom....States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.
It seems that they intend to use the excuse that they had always intended a fight with Iran for harboring terrorists. In my opinion, the White House has been looking for a plausible excuse to poke Iran in the eye, and now it seems they've found it... Heaven help us!
