A UN Dream... or Nightmare?
Thursday, April 06, 2006
Have you ever had one of those dreams where you woke up and wondered why you had never thought of "that" before? This morning, while in dreamland, I dreamt that my mom called to say that she had found some articles for me to read about the United Nations. These particular articles were about the UN's push to get authorization to tax various "international" activities. The UN was making the claim that it needed additional funding to aid it in performing it's functions. The dream continued, but the rest isn't relevant to the point of this post.
When I awoke, I reflected on my dream. In a flash it occurred to me that the UN we have right now is very much like the United States government under the Articles of Confederation. In other words, under-funded and damned-near ineffectual (just the way I like my government). But, if the boys at the UN get their way, they'll soon be tapping into streams of cash to finance their enterprise and will be able to expand their socialist agendas. Don't believe me? Just look at the history of the United States. From 1789 to 1913, the U.S. crept along at a steady, but ever-expanding pace. Then Congress got the power of the income tax and the ability to print money out of thin air. Since that time, the U.S. government has mushroomed in size and power.
How long do you think it will take the United Nations to do the same? I'd guess not very long at all. The U.S. has gone ahead and blazed the trail to total domination. Heck, there's even a map and everything. The UN only needs to follow our lead. I'm not saying that the guys in charge of the United Nations are going to use all that power and money for nefarious purposes. I'm just saying that, as a demonstrated rule of our history, this path has generally been the course most chosen.
But, hey... that's just my observation.

Maybe you're not saying that the guys in charge of the United Nations are going to use all that power and money for nefarious purposes, so I'll say it. That's exactly what they'll use your money for. :)
.
Great analogy! I hope we can keep the U.N. under the Articles!
